Negros Agriculture

Negros Occidental’s production area categorization includes croplands, fishponds, agro-forestry, and production forests. The province remains the country’s sugar leader while rapidly emerging as the organic farming capital. Based on the 2023-2028 PDPFP, our infrastructure supports massive production for sugarcane, rice, corn, and coconut.

The PRDP Advantage: Our Provincial Commodity Investment Plan (PCIP) rationalizes interventions within the value chain, focusing on market-oriented, climate-resilient agri-fishery sectors.

Priority Commodities

 

Coffee High Growth

Major expansion opportunity with 1,855 ha of suitable, unutilized land. Strategic focus on specialty coffee and eco-tourism in La Castellana, Sipalay, and Murcia. Aiming to increase yields to 2kg per tree by 2026.

 

Coconut Strategic Hubs

Supporting 3.6 million farmers across 52,198 hectares in the province. Establishment of Coconut Hubs in Hinoba-an and Sagay and a 12-ha high-yield seed farm in Bago City for advanced research and intercropping.

 

Sardines New Facility

Targeting a local demand of 88.5 million cans annually. The proposed 1 ton/hour canning facility offers a 30.4% ROI, utilizing rich catches from the Visayan Sea and Panay Gulf.
