Provincial Overview

The Agribusiness sector of Negros Occidental is the primary engine of the provincial economy. Historically dominant in the sugar industry, the province is now emerging as a leader in organic farming. With over 50% of land area dedicated to agriculture, Negros Occidental contributes more than half of the Philippines' total sugar production.

Based on the 2023-2028 Physical Framework Plan (PDPFP), production area is estimated at 501,838 hectares. These lands are strategically categorized into croplands (sugarcane, rice, corn, coconut), agro-forestry, and highly productive fishponds covering over 12,000 hectares.

Priority Commodities: Under the Provincial Commodity Investment Plan (PCIP), focus is placed on Muscovado, Coconut, Coffee, Swine, Native Chicken, and Goat—each backed by a rigorous Value Chain Analysis (VCA) for investor guidance.

1. Coffee Sector

Overview: While Robusta dominates 76% of national production to meet instant coffee demand, Negros Occidental presents a prime opportunity for specialty expansion. Currently, 1,855 hectares of suitable idle land are available for high-value cultivation.

2. Coconut Industry

Negros Occidental manages over 5.2 million trees across 52,198 hectares. As the Philippines ranks second globally in coconut exports, the province is positioning itself for high-value downstream processing.

Despite an abundance of Sardinella lemuru, the province currently lacks a local canning facility. The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental (PGNO) proposes a landmark manufacturing partnership.
